Maia Omiadze, an official from Georgia’s Economy and Sustainable Development, has been appointed as the new Head of the Georgian National Tourism Department, the Ministry announced on Monday.
Omiadze, who previously headed the Ministry’s Strategic Communications Department, said under her direction the national tourism body would look to increase income from the sector and create more tourist destinations and infrastructure in the country.
She also highlighted the importance of the winter resort town of Bakuriani hosting the 2023 Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships in February, and Georgia’s hosting of ITB Berlin, a leading travel trade fair, in the German capital in March.
The newly appointed official also said the GNTA would look to open opportunities for Georgia to host other “large-scale events” in the coming years.
