Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Tuesday held a farewell meeting with Ambassador Marek Szczygieł, the Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia, with the latter’s diplomatic term in the country coming to a close.
At the meeting, the officials highlighted the role and importance of the EU Mission - the “only international mission” operating in Georgia to prevent escalation of the situation on the ground. The parties also discussed the “difficult” humanitarian, human rights and security situation created in Georgia’s Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
Darchiashvili expressed his gratitude for the EU's support and involvement in the process of peaceful resolution of the Russia-Georgia conflict and thanked the outgoing Ambassador for his efforts to strengthen peace and security, wishing him success in his future activities.
