Ukraine's recall of its ambassador from Georgia while his counterpart is "under fire in Kyiv" "raises questions", Gia Volsky, the First Deputy Chairman of the Georgian Parliament said on Tuesday.

Volsky made the comments while responding to controversy over the Georgian government's refusal to allow volunteers to board flights to Ukraine with the goal of taking up arms and getting involved in hostilities.

Of course, there arises the question whether this decision [on ambassador recall] was taken by [Ukraine' President] Zelensky, or whether someone took advantage of this difficult situation and arranged a provocation by bringing an element of confrontation between us and Ukraine,” Volsky added in his reaction to the development.

The First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament also pointed to the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia, where thousands of citizens were being "held hostage", he said.

Volsky highlighted the Georgian government’s strong political support for Ukraine at all international forums on the backdrop of Russia's military onslaught on the country.

I very much hope that a comprehensive answer [around the decision on the Ukrainian Ambassador] will be given during this consultation,” Volsky also added.

Ukraine recalled its ambassador from Georgia for consultations on Tuesday, with President Volodymyr Zelensky citing the Georgian government's refusal to allow volunteers to take part in the conflict as the reason for the move.
