Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi, has revealed the Mziuri park, a popular recreational destination in the capital, will expand following the purchase of an area of up to 18,000 square metres by the city hall.
Kaladze said on Thursday the area had been obtained from a private owner for the purpose.
Mziuri park was completely renovated two years ago, and now it is one of the beloved places for young people. Unfortunately, it was impossible to fully rehabilitate the space, as a part of it was in private ownership”, the mayor said.
He added talks had led to the handover of the additional space to the city hall, and noted ensuring new recreational spaces was a “priority” for the city body.
The agreement will need to be confirmed by the Tbilisi city council.
