Kazakh prime minister Alikhan Smailov on Saturday announced that Kazakhstan would begin transporting oil through the Tbilisi-Baku-Ceyhan pipeline from January 1, 2023, at a briefing with journalists, Kazinform news agency reported.
Smailov said the oil would arrive from eastern Kazakhstan’s Aktau port into the Azerbaijani Baku port, and then it would be transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
Through the port of Baku, Kazakh oil can be transported via the Baku-Supsa and Baku-Batumi oil pipelines. There is also a railroad route from Atyrau towards Batumi and Uzbekistan. And also, there is a Chinese direction. Currently, we have been working on expanding and raising oil export potential in these directions”, the prime minister said.
Smailov said there has been an agreement to transport 1.5 million tonnes of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route and noted later the volumes would be increased up to 6-6.5 million tonnes, adding that Kazakhstan's oil producer Tengizchevroil Company had doubled the number of oil-tank cars and had piloted rail shipments towards Batumi and Uzbekistan.
