Russian-controlled occupation forces have illegally arrested a Georgian citizen in the country’s occupied north-western Abkhazia region, Georgia’s state security service said on Tuesday.
The state body said the de facto authorities in the region had claimed alleged possession of drugs by the individual, who was detained in Gali district while on his way to Zugdidi municipality on the government-controlled territory.
In its statement the service said it had activated the hotline operated for information exchange on developments along the occupation line, and informed the European Union monitoring mission and co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions about the incident.
It also noted “all existing mechanisms” had been activated to ensure release of illegally detained citizens in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) regions.
