The European perspective of Georgia, current situation in the Black Sea region and war in Ukraine were discussed on Monday in a meeting between Georgian president Salome Zourabichvili and Icelandic prime minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir on the sidelines of the World Forum for Democracy.

The meeting reviewed the perspective granted to Georgia by the European Council in June, with Zourabichvili stressing 80 percent of Georgian citizens supported the European integration of the country, the presidential administration said.

The officials also reviewed the situation in the region and the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Georgian president said smaller states should “protect their interests with united efforts” to ensure “their voices are heard and taken into account”.

The president also touched on the importance of protecting biodiversity and the significance of smaller countries to cooperate for the purpose. Zourabichvili and Jakobsdóttir also emphasised the importance of the development of tourism for both countries and the issue of deepening cooperation in the field.
