Georgian PM, representative to Council of Europe review prospects of EU integration

Prospects of Georgia's European integration and ongoing work in the process were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili and Tamar Taliashvili, the newly appointed representative of the country to the Council of Europe.
Garibashvili congratulated Taliashvili on her appointment and wished her success in the work, the government administration said.
On October 3, the Georgian parliament announced Taliashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, had been selected as the permanent representative of the country to the Council of Europe.
Taliashvili previously served as the head of the administration of the ministry of internal affairs and also worked as a delegate of the American Bar Association.
Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday said the European Council’s decision to not include Georgia in its granting of membership candidate status to Moldova and Ukraine in June was “discriminatory”.
The United States “strongly supports” the desire of Georgia and Moldova to join the European Union, Karen Donfried, the United States assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs, said on Tuesday.
The 2022 national security strategy of the United States outlines the country will support “European aspirations” of Georgia and Moldova and their commitment to “important institutional reforms”.
Georgia’s “successful” cooperation with the Council of Europe and the organisation’s “important contribution” to the democratic development process of the country were discussed on Thursday by the Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili and Marija Pejčinović Burić, the secretary general of the Council of Europe, on the sidelines of the United Nations general assembly.
Claire Bazy Malaurie, the newly appointed Head of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, on Friday expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Georgia and praised the country’s “active communication” with the body to meet the European Union’s 12-point conditions for obtaining the bloc’s membership candidate status.
Tamar Taliashvili, Georgia's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, on Wednesday said the Georgian Government “strongly condemned” Russia’s intention to hold illegal municipal elections in Ukraine’s occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions this fall.
