Georgian corporal Temur Dadiani, who lost both his legs in a mine explosion in Afghanistan in 2011, won a gold medal at the world armwrestling championships in Istanbul, the Georgian defence ministry said on Tuesday.

The double amputee claimed the medal after winning in both left- and right-handed categories by defeating Kazakh and Ukrainian rivals, claiming gold at the competition for the fourth time in a row.

In 2014, Dadiani set a Guinness world record after completing 37 press-ups in 38.25 seconds – three more than the minimum requirement, while in 2020 he claimed a gold medal in 115 kg powerlifting category and a bronze in swimming at the Marine Corps Trials competition in the United States.
Dadiani is currently serving at the national defence academy of Georgia and competes in sporting tournaments.
