Georgian parliament speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday hailed the latest World Justice Project rule of law index that ranked Georgia at the top in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region, saying “time and time again, facts defeat perceptions”.

The parliament official said the release of the report ensured “we are once again convinced of the scale of disinformation propaganda aimed at forming negative perceptions towards Georgia”, in remarks on the index.

Papuashvili noted Georgia was the leader among 14 countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region in the list, as well as ahead of all European Union membership candidate countries, two EU member states and five NATO members.

The head of the legislative body also raised the country’s ranking as the first in the world in the open budget rating of Open Budget Survey 2021, and placed ahead of nine EU member states and 11 NATO member countries in terms of low level of corruption in Corruption Perceptions Index 2021.

The new World Justice Project index ranked Georgia at the top in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region and 49th globally in its rule of law ranking.

The report evaluated 140 countries based on constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice and criminal justice.
