Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili on Thursday thanked his Hungarian counterpart Viktor Orbán for being a “vocal supporter” for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration and territorial integrity.
I want to say how much we appreciate, how strongly we appreciate your support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of our country. You have always been and are a strong, vocal supporter of Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and your messages are always important to us”, Garibashvili said at a joint press conference with Orbán in Budapest.
In his remarks, Garibashvili noted Georgia wanted to become a “full-fledged and worthy” member of the European family.
"We appreciate your comments regarding the decision made by the European Council [on granting Georgia the European perspective in June]”, the PM told the host, adding “it was important for us to receive the European perspective”.
Georgia and the Georgian people have always faithfully followed this civilisational choice. We want to become a full-fledged, worthy member of the European family and also a member of NATO”, he noted.
In the press conference, Orbán had said the European Council’s decision on not including Georgia in its granting of the European Union membership candidate status to Moldova and Ukraine in June was “discriminatory”.
