Prosecutor general’s office charges 3 for embezzlement

The state body said the individuals, pretending to operate under Eurobank Cyprus, had embezzled about $35,528 through fraud by promising the foreign citizen they would gain back the money they had lost via online trading, and receive additional profit.

The Georgian prosecutor general’s office has charged three individuals with fraudulent embezzlement of money from a Latvian citizen, the state body said on Wednesday.

The state body said the individuals, pretending to operate under Eurobank Cyprus, had embezzled about $35,528 through fraud by promising the foreign citizen they would gain back the money they had lost via online trading, and receive additional profit.

An “active investigation” is ongoing to identify other members of the criminal group, the office of the prosecutor general also said.

The crime is punishable by six to nine years in prison.
