Georgian foreign minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Friday discussed “further” activation of political dialogue and maintaining close communication in a joint meeting with Marko Mihkelson, Rihards Kols and Laima Andrikienė, the foreign committee chairs of Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian parliaments.

Darchiashvili highlighted the importance of the joint visit of the committee chairs “in the light of today's challenges” and stressed the “irreversibility” of Georgian reforms implemented in the direction of European integration, emphasising the progress achieved in the implementation of the EU recommendations.

Georgia’s progress in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation integration process and the upcoming summit in Vilnius were also discussed, with Darchiashvili highlighting the importance of the Baltic countries' support and Georgia's expectations regarding the summit, the foreign ministry said.

The conversation also touched on the current security situation in the region, as well as the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia, with the sides stressing the significance of the Geneva International Discussions and the Georgian government's peace policy.

The committee chairs confirmed their “strong” support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as the foreign policy priorities.
