Italian sports media has praised the homage paid by Napoli’s Georgian midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Marita Meparishvili, a 13-year-old girl who died from injuries sustained in an electrocution incident in Tbilisi’s Vake Park recreational area on Thursday.
Kvaratskhelia wore a wristband with the name of the minor during Sunday’s game against Bologna in the Italian championship, with the Italian press noting his “very beautiful gesture”.

Corriere dello Sport, a leading Italian daily sports outlet, said “sometimes a champion is not only seen by his play on the field but also by his sensitivity” in comments on the player’s choice of homage.
[I]n this regard, Kvaratskhelia has few equals in the world of football. Already loved by his companions for his sensitivity and simplicity, the Georgian phenomenon has remained the protagonist of a new very beautiful gesture towards Marita Meparishvili”, the paper noted.
Napoli won the match 3-2, through a decisive assist by the Georgian winger.
