Georgian mountaineers Giorgi Tepnadze, Baqar Gelashvili and Archil Badriashvili have been awarded the Piolet d'Or or Golden Ice Axe award for climbing the peak of Hindu Kush mountain range located in Central and South Asia Saraghrar North West, which has been unclimbed until now.
The mountaineers will be awarded for becoming the first ones in history to conquer the peak at 7303 metre, at an annual mountaineering award ceremony, which is set to run between November 18 and 20 in the French highland town of Briançon.
The award, considered mountaineering's highest honour and the Oscar of climbing, has been given by the French magazine Montagnes and The Groupe de Haute Montagne since 1992.
Three Georgian climbers arrived in Pakistan on August 16 in 2021.
