It is important to maintain a peaceful environment in Georgia, be calm and firm, and continue the development of the country. Against the background of a “very difficult” situation in European countries, Georgia has a record double-digit economic growth throughout Europe and Central Asia, Irakli Garibashvili, the Georgian prime minister said on Sunday.
We must be very calm, we certainly have the challenges - 20% of the country is occupied, and considering all this, we need intelligence, lack of emotions, more work and economic development, as well as more prosperity, love and positivity", Garibashvili told reporters.
The head of the government said the Georgian delegation had had “very interesting” discussions in Prague at the inaugural European Political Community summit, created by the initiative of the French president Emmanuel Macron, and noted he was “honoured” to have led one of the working groups.
Garibashvili stressed the main topic of the discussion at the summit had been the security challenges in Europe and the world, amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, and noted there has not been such a crisis in the whole world since the Second World War, adding the main “concern” of the Georgian government has been the peace and security of the country’s citizens.
The PM also said that the second main topic was energy security, as there has been an “acute” energy crisis in Europe after cutting off the gas for some European countries by Russia and reducing its supply by seven percent to others, and noted the discussions touched on the ways to replace the Russian gas.
The head of the government said Georgia has been one of the prominent countries in this region, taking part in peace negotiations, and he stressed the importance of peace in the neighbouring countries of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey. Garibashvili said the government was interested in having a closer relationship with these countries.
The main thing I want to tell you is that the country does not face any challenges, we very firmly follow our path, our chosen peaceful policy, and our citizens will not have any interruptions in the winter in terms of energy supply", Garibashvili noted.
