Factories have processed 175,500 tonnes of grapes from the ongoing harvest in Georgia’s eastern winemaking region of Kakheti, with about 16,000 growers generating ₾174 million (about $ 61,514,530) in income so far, the national wine agency announced on Monday.
About 225 wine factories have been involved in the work, with an average of 9,000 tonnes processed per day, the national body also said.
The Georgian government has allocated ₾150 million (about $53 mln) in subsidies for the 2022 seasonal harvest. The government said in August it would subside the harvest due to the “record-high grape yield”, with PM Irakli Garibashvili pledging “not a single kilogram of grapes will be left behind” in accepting produce from farmers.
