A freight ship, sailing under the Russian flag, entered the Black Sea Poti port on Friday and is not subject to international sanctions, the Georgian revenue service announced on Saturday.

The service said the vessel CALLIOPE was loaded with 4,044 tonnes of diesel fuel designated for the Armenian company, but refrained from naming the companies and confidential tax information, also explaining that after screening it was confirmed, with the Georgian maritime transport agency, that the international sanctions, imposed on Russia and Belarus since the start of the war in Ukraine, have not applied either to the ship or its owner company.

The state body noted after the completion of the customs control procedures, the cargo was placed in the transit procedure under the legislation.

In its statement the agency said it has been “constantly checking” ships and ship owners for compliance with the sanctions, together with the maritime transport agency, noting that sanctioned ship, cargo or ship owners would not be able to enter and carry out customs procedures at Georgian ports.
