Germans know “very well the price of political stability”, and the matter of depolarisation on Georgia’s political environment is of “special interest” to them, Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, said on Thursday.
Kobakhidze was commenting on the statement of the German chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said at the joint press conference with the Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday “the recommendations of the European Commission are important and this requires a joint, national effort of all political forces”, in reference to conditions for granting Georgia the EU membership candidate status.
Germany supports Georgia's European integration - the process related to receiving the [EU] membership candidate status. It is absolutely clear when a German chancellor calls on all political parties to engage in the process of receiving the candidate status. Germans know very well the price of political stability. Depolarisation in Georgia is of special interest to them”, the GD official said.
Kobakhidze stressed the statement of Scholz should be perceived as “another supportive statement” for the Georgian state.
The Georgian official also noted the opposition United National Movement, Lelo and Strategy Aghmashenebeli parties had separated themselves from the work on the implementation of the EU conditions.
Today it is clear that these three political parties are directly interested in preventing Georgia from being granted the candidate status”, he concluded.
