Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili on Wednesday said Ukraine was Georgia’s special partner, with the “friendship and relations” between the states having a “very solid” foundation.

The Georgian official vowed “unwavering support” for Ukraine in a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart on the sidelines of the informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Prague.

Ukraine is our special partner, the Ukrainian people are special friends of the Georgian people, and this friendship [and] these relations have a very solid foundation”, he told Georgian Public Broadcaster.

“[I]n the future we will certainly continue to build this existing, extraordinary relationship, and we are motivated for this”, the top Georgian diplomat added.

Darchiashvili expressed his confidence the meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart would also be a “new impetus” in relations between the two countries.

We have had a very open, very sincere conversation, which is always very helpful for the development of bilateral relations, and today we have held our meeting in a similar format. We plan to continue our very close, personal relations in the future in order to bring specific, tangible results for our two countries”, he concluded in his comments.
