A firefighter working to put out forest fires in central-western Georgia’s Borjomi municipality was recorded helping out an animal in need.
A video shared on social media on Thursday showed the firefighter giving a dehydrated squirrel escaping the blaze a sip of water.
In its latest update, the Georgian Interior Ministry said early on Friday a large number of fire sources had been localized overnight, with more than 1,300 professionals from different state bodies of Georgia ensuring “maximum efforts” to put out the fire.
In a move marking international assistance to Georgian state bodies, three specialised Turkish firefighting aircraft joined efforts to extinguish the blaze this week.
Equipped with eight-ton tanks for fire extinguishing material, the aircraft are being utilised by their crew on sectors of the fire in the municipality, with four helicopters of the Georgian border police also involved.
