Simplified enrollment for Ukrainian students at Georgian schools renewed for new academic year

Ukrainian school students affected by the ongoing war in their country will continue to benefit from simplified enrollment at Georgian schools in the 2022-2023 academic year, the Georgian Education Ministry announced on Thursday.

Announcing the continuation of the initiative that involves accepting Ukrainian students without the usually required papers, the state body also said Ukrainian nationals entering higher education institutions in the country would also benefit from being exempted from having to take national exams.

Over 1500 Ukrainian students unable to continue classes due to the hostilities in their country have joined public and private schools both in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi and other regions of the country via the state initiative.

In addition, more than 900 students from the country have been enabled to continue their studies in classes held in Ukrainian language.

The latter initiative in Tbilisi and the Black Sea city of Batumi was launched by the initiative of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, with students from the first to the eleventh grade given the opportunity to receive general education in their native language.

The classes also involve the same curriculum and textbooks they used in classes held in Ukrainian schools before the outbreak of hostilities in the country. In the Georgian schools, they also study Georgian language and literature, and the subject Our Georgia.
