Finance ministry investigators to inspect Tbilisi electricity distribution company

The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance will inspect validity of tax calculations by Telmiko, an electricity distribution company in Tbilisi, following complaints of consumers regarding their increased utility bills. 

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili instructed the finance minister Lasha Khutsishvili on Monday to study the issue and “present the results of the inspection within a reasonable timeframe.” 

In case of the inquiry revealing a violation by the company the response would be “very strict”, Garibashvili emphasised while also stressing the importance of providing the population with answers over the complaints in a timely manner. 

Khutsishvili noted a working process over the matter had already been started by a regulating body, adding it would be “accelerated as much as possible.” The Georgian National Energy Regulation Company launched an inspection of distribution companies Telmiko and Telasi in early February.
