Gov’t to cover utility fees for socially vulnerable families

As part of the Georgian prime minister’s initiative, vulnerable families scoring 70,000 or below on the social threshold score and registered in Tbilisi will receive support from the state in covering their utility bills.

As part of the initiative, the government will cover expenses for families that consumer under 200 kWh of electricity per month, with the beneficiaries needing to be registered for their status between January 1 and December 31, with a rating threshold between 70,000-150,000 points.

The amount of the government subsidy amounts to the difference between the end-user tariff in December 2020 and the consumer tariff in July 2015, as well as the difference between the tariffs in January 2022 and December 2020 at 3.5 tetri per 1 kWh.

Utility subsidies will also be provided to families registered in the Unified Database of Socially Vulnerable Families from April 1 to October 31. The subsidies do not apply to the families in mountainous settlements who already enjoy certain benefits for their utility fees.

In addition, between January and December, families registered with a rating score of 70,000 or less and living in Tbilisi or the cities of Rustavi or Mtskheta will receive a subsidy for potable water, amounting up to 100 GEL.

The government said it had already issued the relevant decree.
