The agency said 600 professionals, including 300 firefighters, of the Special Tasks Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were trying to extinguish the blaze which erupted last Friday near the villages of Kvabiskhevi and Zoreti.
To prevent further spread of the fire, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Sunday instructed the country’s Defence Forces, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Environment to get involved in combating the fire.
Four border police helicopters and more than 50 fire engines were present at the scene to extinguish the fire, the Service said.
