Georgia’s Roads Department wins arbitration disputes in Paris on construction of East-West Highway sections

The Roads Department of Georgia has won three disputes in the French international arbitration against construction companies contracted for work on the first and third sections of the Samtredia-Grigoleti and Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti sections of the E-60 East-West Highway in the country, the Infrastructure Ministry announced on Friday. 

The Roads Department terminated the contracts with the contractor companies due to non-fulfillment of the obligations and started a legal dispute in the international arbitration in order to compensate the damages caused by them. The arbitration of Paris decided all three disputes in favour of the Department, and the damage will be compensated with ₾187 million ($63.61mln)", said the Ministry.

The Ministry also said that currently, a new construction company is carrying out works on the first section of Samtredia-Grigoleti road, which are planned to be completed by the end of 2022. 

Construction of the Zemo Ossiauri-Chumateleti section is also underway, and the works are planned to be completed in 2023. 

As for the third section of Samtredia-Grigoleti, tender procedures are underway to select a new contractor, said the Ministry.
