Kutaisi International Airport will be closed between October 10-24 for maintenance works on its runway, the United Airports of Georgia announced on Tuesday.
Repairs will be carried out on a section of the foundation of the 2.5 km-long runway.
In order to ensure safety of flights, suitability of the runway is constantly checked, and care is taken to maintain it. The repair work will be carried out according to the annual plan, which is a constituent part of the proper operation of the airport”, United Airports Director Tamar Archuadze said.
The United Airports said airlines operating at the Airport would make individual decisions on whether to continue flights through other Georgian airports or to pause connections for the two weeks.
Airports will inform their passengers of the decision they make”, the company said.
An ₾8 million (about $2,822,068) tender has been announced for the maintenance works on the runway, set to be fully carried out through revenues of the United Airports.
