A new multifunctional sports complex will begin operating at full capacity in Georgia’s Black Sea city of Poti starting July 29, Poti City Hall announced on Thursday.

The complex includes large and small swimming pools, fitness hall, multifunctional gym, hotel rooms, cafeteria and offices for team coaches and doctors, with all spaces of the facility being adapted for disability use.

The sports complex will host the first event - the International Chess Festival - for 10 days from July 15 with about 400 chess players from 10 countries participating in the event.

It has been unveiled as part of a 14.5 mln ($5mln/€5mln) project launched to enable locals to “enjoy high-standard sports and health services” and host international tournaments in various types of sports, the City Hall said. Photo: Poti City Hall
