Georgian customs officers seized undeclared gold worth ₾18,425 ($6,398/€6,288) on the Red Bridge, a crossing point between Georgia and Azerbaijan, and the Georgia-Turkey border crossing checkpoint of Sarpi in the south-west of the country, Georgian Revenue Service announced on Friday. 

The body said gold jewellery items with a total weight of 133.81 grams and a 20-gram gold bar had been seized in the action and two Georgian citizens were fined ₾18,425 following physical and baggage inspection. 

Additionally, customs officers at western Georgia's Kutaisi Airport checkpoint prevented three more cases of smuggling of gold and silver goods that involved 238.95 grams of gold jewellery, 239.33 grams of gold coins and 14 grams of silver products.

One Georgian citizen out of three offenders was fined ₾3,240 ($1,125/€1,105), while case materials for the remaining two individuals were sent to the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry.
