German wine professionals to help promote Georgian wine

A group of German wine professionals visited Georgia with the aim to learn about the traditional and modern techniques of winemaking in the country and promote Georgian wines in the German market, the National Wine Agency of Georgia said on Thursday.

The group of sommeliers and journalists visited producers in the country’s eastern winemaking regions of Kakheti and Kartli and tasted their wines.

“Obviously, what everyone associates first with Georgia is the traditional qvevri winemaking techniques and the history of the country”, Konstantin Baum, Sommelier and a Master of Wine said in comments on the visit.

For me it is quite surprising, and a very interesting fact, that the young generation of wine producers, in addition to the traditional methods, also use modern technologies. They have new ideas and concepts. The varieties of local origins are also very interesting for me”, Baum noted. 

As part of the tour, a special speed testing was also organised in capital Tbilisi, where 20 Georgian wine producing companies presented their products to the German wine professionals for the purpose of evaluation and recommendations.
