Turkey, China, Russia top trading partners of Georgia in January-May 2022

Turkey ($1.02 billion), China ($783.1 million) and Russia ($764.2 million) are the top trading partners of Georgia in total external trade turnover in January-May 2022, preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia show. 

Georgia's top trading partners by exports in January-May 2022 were China ($362.8 million), Azerbaijan ($224.1 million) and Russia ($210.3 million), while the top trading partners by imports were Turkey ($830 million), Russia ($553.9 million) and China ($420.3 million).

The top three export items were as follows:

  • Copper ores and concentrates - $465.9 million (22.1 percent of total exports)
  • Ferro-alloys - $285.7 million (13.5 percent)
  • Motor cars - $191 million (9 percent)

Last month Georgia exported a record $504 million of goods, marking a 48 percent increase compared to the same month of the previous year, Geostat said.

The top import commodities were the following:

  • Petroleum and petroleum oils - $461.2 million (9.6 percent of total imports)
  • Motor cars - $454.7 million (9.4 percent)
  • Copper ores and concentrates - $371.8 million (7.7 percent)

Overall, Georgian external trade turnover amounted to $6.93 billion in January-May 2022, posting a 37.4 percent increase year-on-year, said Geostat.

The exports equaled $2.11 billion (+37.5 percent y/y), while the imports stood at $4.82 billion (+37.3 percent y/y).
