Georgian police officers have arrested an individual after an attempted armed robbery of a Bank of Georgia branch in the Black Sea city of Batumi earlier on Friday, Interpressnews has reported.
According to reports, the offender broke into the BoG branch with the armed attempt, but then tried to flee the scene after failing to accomplish their objective.
The offender is set to face up to seven years in prison for attempted robbery and for illegal purchase and possession of firearms.
Police have arrested one individual after an attempted armed robbery of a Bank of Georgia branch in Tbilisi earlier today. The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the detainee broke into the Bank of Georgia branch on Ketevan Tsamebuli avenue to rob the place but failed and tried to flee the scene.
A young man attempted to hold up a VTB Bank branch by entering the building through a ventilation duct on Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi yesterday. TV channel Rustavi 2 reported that the individual threatened bank employees with kerosene after which they left the building until police arrived, however Head of Communications of VTB Bank Shota Machavariani told Interpressnews (IPN) earlier today that the unknown man who entered the bank branch yesterday did not ask for money and did not threaten the staff.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that police officers have detained the bank attacker, Nikoloz Tsurtsumia (born in 1993) and have released seven hostages.
