Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air plans to station an additional passenger jet at western Georgia's Kutaisi International Airport in August, Zsuzsa Trubek, the company’s Corporate Communications Manager told Georgian media outlet bm.ge on Wednesday.
We are constantly researching the markets, monitoring the flow of passengers and, based on the data, discussing new destinations as well as where Wizz Air can enter, expand or add flights [...] We will add another aircraft to Georgia, which will obviously increase the flight frequency", Trubek told bm.ge.
She added passenger flow rates were returning to the pre-pandemic state in Georgia, adding "we have even higher expectations".
The figures are positive, especially after two difficult years that particularly damaged the aviation industry", Trubek said.
Currently Wizz Air is represented by only one aircraft at the Georgian airport.
According to the data published by the United Airports of Georgia this week, passenger flow at the Kutaisi International Airport recovered in May by 111 percent compared to the pre-pandemic figure in 2019, while the number of flights was restored by 115 percent.
Tamar Archuadze, the Director of the airports company, said the Kutaisi Airport had “completely overcome” pandemic challenges and in the first five months of 2022 surpassed the indicator of the same period of 2019, both in terms of passenger flow and the number of flights.

Regular direct flights from Kutaisi International Airport to Barcelona will resume on October 31, while regular flights to Vienna will resume starting November 2, reports United Airports of Georgia.
