President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili was welcomed in Rome on Tuesday with a ceremony at the Quirinal Palace of the city marking the beginning of her official visit.
Zourabichvili and her Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella honoured the state flag of the Italian Republic in the occasion involving a guard of honour.

The officials later held face-to-face and expanded meetings and made joint statements to the media, the Georgian President’s press office said.
“A great chance to bring our historical ties to a new level,” Zourabichvili tweeted in relation to the meetings, adding the two states were “historical partners” and her visit was an opportunity to reaffirm the “values and principles that bring the countries closer together”.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has paid a historic official visit to Austria. She is the first Georgia president to visit the country in an official capacity for the first time in 100 years. Zurabishvili met with Austrian President Alexander van der Bellen earlier today, after meeting with members of the Georgian diaspora in Vienna.
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, who is on an official visit to Vatican, has met with Pope Francis today. During the meeting they discussed a number of issues including the importance of global solidarity during the Covid-19 pandemic, the grave humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), as well as Georgia’s role of a mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan to promote peace and stability in the region.
