An American business consulting firm is studying the possibility of establishing a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul centre in Georgia over the next three to five years, Georgia's export promotion agency Enterprise Georgia announced on Friday.
With the support of the United States Agency for International Development’s Economic Security Programme, the study is commissioned from Frost & Sullivan, who have visited the country’s airports in the capital city of Tbilisi and western city of Kutaisi to identify the possible locations for MRO facilities.
The MRO center in Georgia will provide high quality, cost effective services to customers in Western Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and CIS countries. Airlines based in Caucasian region have to address MROs in Europe or the Middle East, even for component and airframe maintenance," a document published by the USAID Economic Security Programme said.

Initiated by Enterprise Georgia and through the involvement of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency and United Airports of Georgia, the MRO Feasibility Study is due to be finalised by late summer.
It will look to obtain an overview of the local circumstances and assess whether a potential in the domestic market exists for the project.
