Georgia has "a special role to play" in contributing to Europe's economic security, Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili told officials at the Global Security Forum, the Ministry of Economy said on Friday.
While speaking at the panel entitled Europe’s Addiction Problem: Russian Energy, Davitashvili said challenges facing the world, including in terms of economic security, must be overcome “through joint efforts”.
Of course, our main focus is to show solidarity and to be mobilised as much as possible so that the challenges that stand in terms of security today, which is largely related to economic security, can be overcome through joint efforts," Davitashvili said.
The Forum is taking place in Bratislava, Slovakia, between Thursday and Saturday. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili attended the opening ceremony on Thursday.
The PM will address a panel involving a discussion on the European Union intensifying partnership with its Eastern Neighbourhood allies. Maia Sandu, President of Moldova, will also deliver an address.
Ways of strengthening security and resilience in the world, taking “effective steps” to support Ukraine in its defence from the Russian invasion, and strengthening the European neighbourhood have been named among the principal topics of this year’s Forum.
GLOBSEC is hosting delegates from 67 countries, including 10 presidents and prime ministers, along with foreign and defence ministers.
