Georgian PM, Rothschild & Co discuss transforming Georgia into regional financial hub

Georgian prime minister Irakli Garibashvili met Arielle Malard de Rothschild, Managing Director at Rothschild & Co on Friday, with the meeting reviewing plans of a government initiative of transforming the country into a regional financial hub.

The head of the Georgian government and the representative of the financial group discussed the steps aiming to attract investment, create fresh job opportunities and share modern financial and technological innovations, following on from the December 16 agreement between the sides in Brussels.

Plans for the creation of special international financial zones in capital Tbilisi and Black Sea coastline town of Gonio were also discussed in the meeting, with the sides stressing the favourable investment environment and development of the capital market in Georgia as two of the most important directions of the country's economic policy.

The prime minister pledged “maximum support” from the government for ensuring efficient work on the initiative, and for “concrete steps” in the short term to attract foreign financial resources to Georgia.
