The Mayor of Washington DC, Muriel Bowser, on Thursday proclaimed May 26 as the date for annual celebrations of Georgia’s Independence Day in the city.
In her official statement, the Mayor said the Georgian community was an “important part” of the social fabric of the city.
Georgia’s magnificent culture and history are promoted by the Georgian Centre, a charitable organisation founded by first-generation immigrants who came to the United States with a dream to build a better life,” Bowser said.
Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, David Zalkaliani, thanked the Mayor for the decision and said he was “delighted” to see Washington DC celebrate Georgia's Independence Day.
