World’s iconic buildings lit in red and white for Georgia’s Independence Day

Countries across the world have illuminated their iconic buildings in the colours of Georgia’s national flag to mark the Independence Day of the country and show their support on Thursday.

For the first time for the date, the Library of Alexandria in Egypt was lit in red and white, while in Canada, the Georgian flag was displayed at Niagara Falls, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

The iconic landmarks and buildings celebrating the Georgian Independence Day include:

  • The Council of Europe in Strasbourg 
  • The National Carillon in Australia
  • Abu Dhabi National Oil Company offices in the United Arab Emirates
  • Seoul City Hall in South Korea
  • Kingdom Centre in Saudi Arabia
  • Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges buildings, Atakule tower, Twin Towers and Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey
  • A building in the central district of Baku, Azerbaijan
  • Shota Rustaveli statue in Hungary
  • Billboards in Armenia displaying the Georgian flag
  • Central bridges in Lithuania
  • Dublin City Hall in Ireland
  • Fountains in Barcelona and Athens
  • Old City Hall building in Cyprus
  • City Hall building in Thessaloniki 
  • Tower of David in Israel
  • Hotel Uzbekistan in the city of Tashkent
  • Georgian Embassies in Slovakia and the Netherlands
  • Main TV tower of Tehran in Iran

Georgia is celebrating its Independence Day, while simultaneously marking the 104th anniversary of the establishment of its First Democratic Republic in 1918.

The date is celebrated through various events not only in the country but also in partner states of Georgia.
