The European Judo Union named Lasha Gujejiani, the head coach of the Georgian national judo team, the best male coach of 2021 following four medals claimed by the team at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the EJU announced on Thursday.
The Georgian Sports Ministry congratulated Gujejiani with the recognition and noted he was awarded by Otto Kneitinger, the President of the Union.
The Georgian team led by Gujejiani won one gold and three silver medals at the Summer Olympic Games last year.
Gujejiani is a two-time World and European champion in the team championship, in addition to the titles of World and European champion among young competitors and the winner of the European Under-23 Championship.
Georgian Olympic champions Lasha Talakhadze and Lasha Bekauri have been named as the Best Athletes of 2021 by the Georgian National Olympic Committee.
Guram Tushishvili claimed a third silver - and a fourth medal overall - for the Georgian representation at the Summer Olympic Games after ending up second in the men's 100+ kg judo final in Tokyo on Friday. Tushishvili contested the final against Lukas Krpalek of the Czech Republic on Mat 1 of Nippon Budokan arena, with the latter winning my Ipon after three minutes and 47 seconds of the fixture.
