Georgia's ongoing application for European Union membership was discussed between Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Ulrik Tidestrom, the Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia on Tuesday, with the two officials also reviewing prospects of further developing relations between their countries.
Garibashvili said the recent handover of the EU membership questionnaire to Georgia by the European Commission gave the country a “great responsibility” to intensify its efforts for joining the Union, and said he hoped for “strong support” from the state’s international partners, the Government Administration said.
The Government head also thanked the Ambassador for supporting Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, the EU integration process and the European reform agenda of Georgia.
He also noted Sweden was one of Georgia's largest international donors and had made a “significant contribution” to the country's democratic, social and economic development.
The sides also discussed the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, with Garibashvili reaffirming his Government’s political support and solidarity with the country following the ongoing Russian aggression. He also noted the humanitarian aid provided by the Georgian side to the Ukrainian people since the start of the invasion in February.
