Parliament Speaker, OSCE Representative discuss Georgian media environment

Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgian  Parliament, and Teresa Ribeiro,  the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Representative on Freedom of the Media, met on Friday to discuss the media environment in Georgia.

Negative consequences of disinformation and media polarisation in the country was on the agenda of the discussion between the two officials, the Parliament press office said.

Papuashvili reviewed the successful steps taken by Georgia to promote freedom of expression and pluralism, noting the country had one of the “most liberal” policies towards the media.

The Parliament Speaker also expressed readiness to continue “fruitful cooperation” with the Office of the OSCE Representative.
