Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgian Parliament, and Teresa Ribeiro, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Representative on Freedom of the Media, met on Friday to discuss the media environment in Georgia.
Negative consequences of disinformation and media polarisation in the country was on the agenda of the discussion between the two officials, the Parliament press office said.
Papuashvili reviewed the successful steps taken by Georgia to promote freedom of expression and pluralism, noting the country had one of the “most liberal” policies towards the media.
The Parliament Speaker also expressed readiness to continue “fruitful cooperation” with the Office of the OSCE Representative.
Zbigniew Rau, the Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Poland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, has extended his gratitude to Georgian authorities and citizens for their support for Ukraine, noting the OSCE commended the country’s “unconditional” support for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
A Georgian parliamentary delegation has discussed investment potential in Georgia for British businesses, as well as security situation in the Black Sea region, with officials and experts in London during an official visit to the United Kingdom.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has met with the representatives of the UK parliament and discussed Georgia's "key foreign policy priorities" on his official visit to the UK earlier today. Papuashvili held meetings with the speakers of the House of Commons and House of Lords, as well as the representatives of the Foreign Relations and the Defence Committees of the House of Commons.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has met with NATO Deputy Secretery-General Mircea Geoana on an official visit to Brussels earlier today. Papuashvili thanked Geoana for NATO's support for Georgia, pointing out that the sides remain "committed and reliable partners" determined to achieve security.
A range of cooperation topics between the Government of Georgia and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights was discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the ODIHR Director Matteo Mecacci.
