Activities of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the Red Cross Society in Georgia, were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and IFRC President Francesco Rocca.

The meeting focused on the Federation’s role in providing humanitarian assistance to the socially vulnerable and the elderly, and the steps that can be taken to further deepen the cooperation between the international organisation and the Government of Georgia, the Government Administration said.

Garibashvili and Rocca discussed the 11th IFRC Europe Regional Conference, hosted by Georgia for the first time, and stressed it was important for the conference to bring tangible results in terms of responding to the challenges in the region.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. Garibashvili reaffirmed Georgia's “strong support” for the country, noting that the support was expressed both politically and in humanitarian terms.

Garibashvili and Rocca also spoke about the situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia and the security and humanitarian circumstances in the two regions. Garibashvili noted his Government was committed to the policy of peaceful settlement of the conflict.
