Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Head: US support “especially important” for Georgia

The ongoing United States support for Georgia is “especially important”, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the ruling Georgian Dream MP who chairs the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Friday.
Samkharadze said the visit of an ongoing US Congressional delegation to Georgia showed American support for Georgia.
We had the opportunity to talk about the developments in the [Black Sea] region [and] security issues. United States support is especially important for Georgia, and it is good that the Congresspeople are here and see the situation on the ground,” the Parliament official said.
The US delegation, led by Senator Coons, is on an official visit to meet with senior Government officials and civil society leaders across several countries to discuss the importance of sustaining and strengthening the Trans-Atlantic Alliance.
Isobel Coleman, the Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programs at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has thanked Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili for “meaningful discussion” on support for Ukraine and Georgia’s “democratic future” following a meeting between the officials on Wednesday.
Georgia is an “important partner” of the United States in a partnership that has been “demonstrated in different ways”, the Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price said during a briefing on Thursday.
US Senator Chris Coons expressed his hope the European Union would “swiftly” welcome Georgia as a new member during a joint press point with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili in Tbilisi on Thursday.
The ongoing war in Ukraine, the security situation in the Black Sea region, and the strengthening of partnership between Georgia and the United States were discussed by Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia and Kelly Degnan, the United States Ambassador on Thursday.
Questions of deepening the Georgia-United States strategic partnership, and the security challenges in the Black Sea region were discussed on Friday in a meeting between Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and a US Congressional delegation on visit to the country.
