Georgia's official application for European Union membership and Georgian-German relations were discussed on Thursday in a meeting between Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and the German Ambassador Hubert Knirsch.
Garibashvili noted the questionnaire on EU membership, handed over to the country’s authorities by the European Commission on April 11, was a “new stage” in relations between the state and the Union, and gave Georgia “a great responsibility to intensify its efforts to join the European Union,” the Government Administration said.
The head of the Georgian Government said in order to effectively manage the process of completing the questionnaire, all state agencies worked in a coordinated and active manner, with himself personally overseeing the process.
The meeting noted that Georgia continued to successfully implement the democratic reforms envisaged by the agenda of its 2014 EU Association Agreement, and stressed the “crucial support” of international partners, including Germany, in the process.
Garibashvili and Knirsch also discussed the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. The Georgian PM reaffirmed Georgia's “political support and solidarity” with Ukraine.
