UNESCO Director General, counterparts congratulate Georgian FM on appointment

The Director General of UNESCO and foreign ministers of Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Iran sent messages of congratulation to Ilia Darchiashvili on his recent appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Georgian foreign office said on Thursday.

In her congratulatory letter, UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay expressed her gratitude for the “constructive role” Georgia has played in its cooperation with the Organisation.

Georgia actively supports the Organization's efforts to promote education, culture, science and freedom of expression,” she said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina Santiago Cafiero celebrated the “historically friendly relations” between his country and Georgia.

Based on our common values, you can hope that in the future I will continue to deepen relations between the two countries for the benefit of our peoples,” the Argentinean top diplomat noted.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia expressed his readiness to discuss bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation in various fields, while the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan expressed his hope that “joint work” would contribute to the development of political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

In his letter, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan underlined the “strong partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation” established between Tajikistan and Georgia, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran expressed his hope for the development of “friendly relations”.

Darchiashvili was appointed Georgia’s Foreign Minister  on April 4.
