The security environment in the Black Sea region and the existing challenges were discussed on Wednesday in a meeting between Georgian Defence Minister Juansher Burchuladze and his Swedish counterpart Peter Hultqvist.

The meeting focused on the military aggression carried out by Russia in Ukraine, which the officials assessed as “a gross violation of fundamental principles and norms of international law, and a threat to Euro-Atlantic security”, the Georgian Defence Ministry said.

The Swedish Minister vowed Sweden's support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as for the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

Burchuladze and Hultqvist also discussed the progress and prospects of Georgia on its path to NATO and European Union membership.
