Georgian PM appoints new finance, justice ministers

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has appointed Lasha Khutsishvili Minister of Finance and Rati Bregadze Minister of Justice at today's government meeting.
Khutsishvili previously held the position of Deputy Finance Minister, while Bregadze was the Deputy Minister of Defence.
Khutsishvili will replace Ivane Matchavariani, who announced his resignation yesterday.

He did not say the reason for his resignation but said that he was planning to leave the post at the end of last year but decided to wait for several months until the 2021 'crisis budget' was approved and the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund was concluded.
As for Lortkipanidze he has made history by becoming the first Georgian judge at the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) for a nine-year tenure. He is leaving for Hague soon.
Georgian Finance Minister and deputy Prime Minister Ivane Matchavariani has announced on social media his resignation. "I have to say that after almost three years of working as the Minister of Finance, I was planning to resign at the end of last year, but due to the 2021 crisis budget approval procedure and important negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, I decided to wait for several months".
Acting Justice Minister Gocha Lortkipanidze, who has made history by becoming the first Georgian judge at the Hague-based International Criminal Court for nine-year tenure, was sworn in today. Being elected ICC judge in December 2020, Lortkipanidze previously represented Eastern Europe in the ICC Trust Fund for Victims.

Justice Minister nominee Gocha Lortkipanidze has made history by becoming the first Georgian judge at the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC). In 2018 Lortkipanidze became the first Georgian who was unanimously elected to represent Eastern Europe in the Trust Fund for Victims of the ICC.
Georgian justice minister Rati Bregadze on Thursday rejected claims by a former supreme court judge about interference in courts by ruling Georgian Dream authorities as “unacceptable” and urged any claimant to “address relevant state bodies” if they believed pressure had been exerted on them.
