Georgia’s former Ambassador to EU Natalie Sabanadze, who has recently resigned, has told Le Monde that ‘all our leaders say they are pro-European, but it is not enough to say it, we must be, too.’

Sabanadze has confirmed she has had disagreements with the Georgian government in recent weeks but refused to go into details.

She gave explanations following the interview and said that she meant all political leaders, the government and opposition, who say they are pro-European.

Sabanadze announced her resignation on March 21 after having represented Georgia in Brussels for almost eight years.

The move came shortly after the failure of EU-mediated talks between the ruling Georgian Dream party and the opposition on the issues of repeat parliamentary elections and the release of opposition figures.

However, earlier this week the European Council President Charles Michel said that the mediator will visit Georgia by the end of the week again to help the parties come to an agreement.
