Son of deceased ex-PM Zurab Zhvania convicted for aggravated assault

The son of deceased former Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Zhvania, Busa Zhvania, has been sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated assault of the grandson of businessman and former MP Gogi Topadze, Levan Topadze last year.
Zhvania will spend one year and six months in prison, while the remaining term will be conditional.
Busa Zhvania stabbed Topadze in his own home on August 2,2020.
Zhvania also suffered from a light wound.
Topadze, with four wounds, was operated on.
The motive has not been identified by officials so far. However, Gogi Topadze mentioned it could have happened because of a woman.
Georgian media outlets report that the confrontation between Topadze and Zhvania started because of a girl, at a festival in Mtatsminda district of central Tbilisi where Topadze appeared with Zhvania’s ex-girlfriend.
Initially Zhvania was charged with attempted murder. However, later the charge has been changed.

Georgian top state figures have commemorated former Parliament Speaker and Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Zhvania on his birthday, whose death 13 years ago still triggers controversies as investigation is still in progress.
